Our U-12s completed the first phase of the County League on Wednesday last with a comprehensive victory over Kilbeggan Shamrocks. This leaves Athlone on top of their Group and we await news of the draw for the second stage. Training continues on Friday evenings at 6pm.

Athlone played host to Clann na nGael on Sunday last in the St. Brigids organised Lough Ree Tournament. On an ideal morning for football these young teams served up an entertaining game in front of a large following with Athlone emerging victors on thr scoreline of 6-5 to 2-6. While Athlone were never headed in this match Clann enjoyed a period of dominance during the second half which saw them reduce the lead to a mere two points with five minutes remaining. However Athlone, inspired by the midfield partnership of Brian Gill and Robert Murray, rallied to score an unanswered 2-3 to take the spoils.
