Athlone minors had a good work out last Tuesday, July 1st, when they took on Birr in a friendly in Pairc Chiarain. In an entertaining game, played in a good spirit, Athlone were very slow to start and gifted the Offaly men two soft goals. At the break Birr led by 2-2 to 0-3.
The second half saw a much more determined and composed home side take the game to Birr and inside fifteen minutes the sides were level. Athlone went on to win on the final score of 2-9 to 2-4. This match was an ideal warm-up for forthcoming League and Championship clashes. A sincere thank you to Birr for making the trip.
